The region Limousin<\/strong> is located in the heart of France and is not very well known by the Dutch. Limoges is the capital of the Limousin region and of the Haute-Vienne department. To this day, the city is known for its porcelain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who love peace, nature and the French countryside, then the Limousin is a perfect destination. In the summer it can be quite warm, but because it is relatively close to the ocean, it is a bit milder here than in Provence, for example. The landscape is nicely balanced and quite spectacular in places. It is therefore very suitable for sporting activities such as horseback riding, golf, hiking and thanks to the rolling landscape, cycling is also possible. The region also has a lot of water in the form of lakes and rivers and you can enjoy water sports there. In addition, it is never very busy, so it's your turn again in no time!<\/p>\n\n\n

The villages and towns are cozy and full of historic buildings. These are also the places where you can enjoy perhaps the most attractive of the Limousin; the kitchen. You can eat terribly delicious food here, just think of those delicious cows. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the eighteenth century, exceptionally good clay was found in the Limousin that could be used to make porcelain. They will do so and Limoges develops as the center of this expensive pottery. Even today, the porcelain from this city is of exceptional quality and you can admire all this beauty in the national porcelain museum<\/a>It is another very nice museum is the Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts<\/a> where, in addition to an extensive enamel collection, they also have interesting ancient Egyptian art. You don't really expect that in a French provincial town.<\/p>\n\n\n

When the weather is nice, which is usually in the summer, a visit to the botanical gardens is recommended. This is located near the cathedral and it is a wonderfully quiet place with beautiful flowers and plants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all these interesting and beautiful things you will of course get hungry and you can eat well in Limoges. You do this in the cozy Quatiers de la Boucherie where, as the name says, you can eat excellent meat. A must is restaurant L'Amphitryon where you get the most delicious dishes for a very reasonable price. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the area around the place, several traces have been found that indicate that this region must have been inhabited in prehistoric times. The city was founded by the Romans around the year 10 BC, under the name Augustoritum, named after the Roman Emperor Augustus. Soon several typical Roman buildings were built, such as an amphitheater, a theater, a forum, baths and several sanctuaries. The city even got its own currency. This shows that Augustoritum was soon regarded as a very important city by the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Augustoritum was occupied by a Gallic tribe known as the Lemovices. They gave the city the name Limoges and the surrounding region the name Limousin. In the fourth century AD, the city was largely abandoned by its own inhabitants, who fled the invasions of various Germanic tribes. However, thanks to the first bishop of Limoges, Saint Martial, the area was converted and prosperous. From the eleventh century AD, Limoges grew into a thriving artistic center. In the thirteenth century, Limoges was at the height of its power. The city was protected by a large castle with walls 12 meters high. Despite the presence of this castle, the city was conquered by Edward van Woodstock, better known as the Black Prince, in the year 1370, during the Hundred Years' War between France and England. Reportedly, the English troops killed thousands of inhabitants. Despite this black page in its history, the city grew into the beautiful city as it is known today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, this beach is known as one of the nicest cities in the west of France. There is therefore plenty to see and experience. For example, the cathedral of Limoges is more than worth a visit. This cathedral is known as a fine example of Gothic architecture. The National Porcelain Museum houses one of the richest collections of ceramics and has a huge collection of porcelain. Finally, the city center is also worth a visit. Here you will find numerous shops and terraces. A trip to Limoges is highly recommended in that regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oradour-sur-Glane<\/h4>\n\n\n

Oradour-sur-Glane was a village that was massacred by the Germans on June 10, 1944. The special thing about this location is that the village has been kept in its original state: largely destroyed. Nevertheless, a visit to this impressive location gives a chilling picture of the inhumane drama that took place here on June 10, 1944.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just outside Razes, is the Lac de St. Pardoux<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n

This lake is known as one of the most popular holiday destinations in the department Haute-Vienne<\/a>. For example, there are several beaches at this lake and you can rent pedal boats or canoes at various locations. Fun for the whole family!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De regio Limousin ligt in het hart van Frankrijk en is niet zo heel bekend bij Nederlanders. Limoges is de hoofdstad van de regio Limousin en van het departement Haute-Vienne. Tot op de dag van vandaag staat de stad bekend om haar porselein. Wie van rust, natuur en het Franse platteland houdt, dan is de Limousin een perfecte bestemming. In de zomer kan het er best warm zijn, maar doordat het relatief dichtbij de oceaan ligt, is het hier wat milder dan in bijvoorbeeld de Provence. Het landschap is mooi in evenwicht en op sommige plekken best spectaculair. Het leent zich dan ook zeer goed voor sportieve bezigheden zoals paardrijden, golven, wandelen en dankzij het glooiende landschap behoort fietsen ook tot de mogelijkheden. De regio heeft daarbij veel water in vorm van meren en rivieren en daar kan je goed op watersporten. Daarbij is het er nooit heel erg druk, dus je bent zo weer aan de beurt! De dorpen en steden zijn gezellig en staan vol met historisch gebouwen. Dit zijn ook de plekken waar je kan genieten van misschien wel het meest aantrekkelijke van de Limousin; de keuken. Je kan hier namelijk verschrikkelijk lekker eten, denk maar aan die heerlijke koeien. In de achttiende eeuw wordt in de Limousin uitzonderlijk goed klei gevonden waar porselein van kan worden gemaakt. Dat gaan ze ook doen en Limoges ontwikkelt zich als het centrum van dit dure aardewerk. Ook nu nog is het porselein uit deze stad van uitzonderlijke kwaliteit en al dit moois kan je bewonderen in het nationale porselein museum. Een ander bijzonder aardig museum is het Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts waar naast een uitgebreide emaille-collectie ook een interessante oude Egyptische kunst hebben. Dat verwacht je toch eigenlijk niet in een Franse provinciestad. Bij mooi weer, en dat is het meestal in de zomer, is een bezoek aan de botanische tuinen een aanrader. Deze bevindt zich vlakbij de kathedraal en het is een heerlijke rustige plek met mooie bloemen en planten. Na al deze interessante en mooie zaken krijg je natuurlijk honger en eten kan je in Limoges prima. Dit doe je in het gezellige Quatiers de la Boucherie waar je, de naam zegt het al, uitstekend vlees kan eten. Een aanrader is restaurant L\u2019Amphitryon waar je voor een zeer redelijke prijs de heerlijkste gerechten krijgt voor geschoteld. Geschiedenis van Limoges In het gebied rondom de plaats zijn verschillende sporen gevonden die er op duiden dat deze regio al in de Prehistorie bewoont moet zijn geweest. De stad werd rond het jaar 10 voor Christus opgericht door de Romeinen, onder de naam Augustoritum, vernoemd naar de Romeinse keizer Augustus. Al snel werden er verschillende typisch Romeinse gebouwen gebouwd, zoals een amfitheater, een theater, een forum, baden en verschillende heiligdommen. De stad kreeg zelfs haar eigen munt. Hieruit blijkt dat Augustoritum al vrij snel als een zeer belangrijke stad werd beschouwd door de Romeinen. Na de val van het Romeinse Rijk werd Augustoritum bezet door een Gallische stam die bekend stond als de Lemovices. Zij gaven de stad de naam Limoges en de omringende regio de naam Limousin. In de vierde eeuw na Christus werd de stad grotendeels verlaten door haar eigen inwoners, die vluchtten voor de invallen van verschillende Germaanse stammen. Dankzij de eerste bisschop van Limoges, Sint Martial werd het gebied echter bekeerd en welvarend. Vanaf de elfde eeuw na Christus groeide Limoges uit tot een bloeiend artistiek centrum. In de dertiende eeuw verkeerde Limoges op het hoogtepunt van haar macht. De stad werd beschermd door een groot kasteel met 12 meter- hoge muren. Ondanks de aanwezigheid van dit kasteel werd de stad in het jaar 1370, tijdens de Honderdjarige Oorlog tussen Frankrijk en Engeland, veroverd door Edward van Woodstock, beter bekend als de Zwarte Prins. Naar verluidt vermoordden de Engelse troepen duizenden inwoners. Ondanks deze zwarte bladzijde in haar geschiedenis, groeide de stad uit tot de prachtige stad zoals zij vandaag de dag bekend staat. Limoges vandaag de dag Vandaag de dag staat deze stand bekend als een van de leukste steden in het Westen van Frankrijk. Er is dan ook genoeg te zien en te beleven. Zo is bijvoorbeeld de kathedraal van Limoges meer dan de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Deze kathedraal staat bekend als een mooi voorbeeld van de gotische bouwkunst. Het nationale porseleinmuseum herbergt een van de rijkste collecties aan keramiek en beschikt over een enorme collectie aan porselein. Tot slot is ook de binnenstad van de stad de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Hier vindt u talloze winkels en terrasjes. Een uitje naar Limoges is wat dat betreft van harte aan te bevelen. Oradour-sur-Glane Oradour-sur-Glane was een dorpje dat op 10 juni 1944 door de Duitsers werd uitgemoord. Het bijzondere aan deze locatie is dat het dorpje in haar originele staat is gehouden: grotendeels vernietigd. Desondanks geeft een bezoekje aan deze indrukwekkende locatie een ijzingwekkend beeld van het onmenselijke drama dat zich hier op 10 juni 1944 heeft afgespeeld. Lac de Sagnat Etang (Lac) de Sagnat, een heerlijk meer van 22 ha, 2 km van het stadscentrum, vissen, speeltuinen en picknickplaatsen, zandstrandje in bomen.  Zwemmen onder toezicht van begin juli tot half augustus. Sportcursus en jeu de boules. Rond 14 juli groots vuurwerk bij het Lac de Sagnat.In het weekend van 14 juli is er de Bandafolies. Een (muziek) evenement wat u niet moet missen: bandafolies.com . Lac de St. Pardoux Net buiten Razes, bevindt zich het Lac de St. Pardoux.  Dit meer staat bekend als een van de meest geliefde vakantiebestemmingen in het departement Haute-Vienne. Zo zijn er bij dit meer verschillende strandjes te vinden en kunt u op diverse locaties waterfietsen of kano\u2019s huren.
